Choosing AzureRM, AzAPI and Azure Verified Modules
Azure Terraform projects need a clear approach to providers and reusable modules. The right choice depends on the resources being managed and how the team will maintain them.
Start with the module requirements
When considering a reusable Azure Verified Module, check the provider requirements and release notes for the version you intend to use. The AVM Terraform specifications provide guidance for module development and evolve over time.
Assess the impact on your existing configuration before changing providers or modules. Resource coverage, support arrangements and the team's ability to maintain the result all matter.
Make the choice deliberately
Review resource coverage, provider versions, module dependencies and your team's support arrangements. Test changes in an appropriate non-production environment and review plans before applying them.
For an existing environment, a targeted change may be more useful than a broad provider migration. For new shared modules, assess whether an existing AVM module meets the requirement before building and maintaining another implementation.
